1. Describe the stasis in the play: where, when, who, what, etc. in a paragraph.

Marjorie, a beautiful woman, lives in a farmhouse in New Jersey. Marjorie is a strong woman that should not be crossed. The play is modern, most likely set in the 1980’s.

2. What is the intrusion?

Raul enters the house looking for Joe. He is lying. He attempts to rape Marge and it does not pan out for him.

3. What is the unique factor?

In this play a woman triumphs over the rapist but has no choice but to enact justice herself because she can no longer depend on her society to think in her interest due to the nature of Raul’s crime and the perceived lack of evidence of a rape.

4. What is the dramatic question that should be answered by the end of the play?

Will Marge kill Raul and give him a 6foot deep dirty bed or will she allow him to live. What will Marge do to a rapist that no longer has any control.

5. Provide an illustration of the two kinds of exposition that the play has in it.

We find out why Raul knew about Marge in the first place.
We find out that Marge actually has two roommates but no man to speak of, which adds to the uniqueness of the play because women end up being the only ones in power in this play.
We find out that one of the roommates were actually raped
We find out that Raul has a wife and kids.


6. Identify the most theatrical moment in the play and of what importance it seems to be.

When Raul asks to sit in the fireplace and we realize that he no longer has any power and control. He is a shell of a human and no longer a danger to society. He is nothing and will be nothing.

7. List some of the themes of the play.

Cruelty. Consent. Patriarchal society. Torture. The struggle for power. Control.

8. What do the principal characters want and what are some obstacles that stand in the way of them getting what they want?

Marge wants Raul to understand how wrong and cruel his actions were and to understand that he is no better because he is a man. Women have the right to choose who they are with and that it isn’t up to the man at all.

9. Describe some possible images in the play and how does the title help us understand the play.

Wasp getting sprayed excessively and the Wasp putting out a cigarette. The Entire first part of the play essentially outlines the main conflicts of the play. Raul is like a wasp that keeps stinging and leaves no stinger behind. However, this time, he has messed with the wrong woman and he will be covered in chemicals and pushed to submission.

Not really any family relationships. However the three roomates are closely connected because all three are free and able to make decisions,
